TikTok Shop Live setup — from zero to your first show.

Updated 14 April 2026·~7 min read·Setup time: 3–7 days

TikTok Shop Live is the single biggest live shopping opportunity in 2026 — the discovery algorithm can push your stream to tens of thousands of unseen viewers mid-show, and commissions are the lowest of the three major platforms. The tradeoff is stricter setup gates. Here's the exact order to clear them.

TL;DR: Register → pass KYC → list a compliant product → hit 1,000 followers → apply for live access → test stream before your first sale. Setup takes 3–7 days end to end. Most rejections come from incomplete tax info or one failed listing review, not follower count.

The 6 steps in order

1
Register a TikTok Shop seller account
~30 minutes

Go to the TikTok Shop seller center for your region: seller-us.tiktok.com (US), seller-uk.tiktok.com (UK), or the equivalent for EU markets. Sign up with your business or individual details. Use the same email you use for your regular TikTok creator account so the two can be linked later.

2
Complete identity and tax verification (KYC)
24–72 hours for approval

Submit: government-issued ID (passport or driver's license), business registration if you have one (optional for individuals in most regions), and tax info — SSN or EIN in the US, VAT ID or NIN in the EU/UK. This is the step that trips up the most new sellers. Use the exact name that matches your ID. Any mismatch delays approval by another 72 hours.

3
Link a payout method and warehouse address
15 minutes

Connect a bank account for payouts and register your shipping origin address. The address must be a physical location in the country of your seller registration. TikTok validates this — a virtual office address will fail verification.

4
List at least one compliant product
1–2 hours for listing, 24–48 hours review

Upload one product with: high-resolution photos (white background preferred for category listings), detailed title with key search terms, category selected correctly, description, variations (size/color), and a shipping template. Listings are reviewed. The single most common rejection reason is wrong category selection. Browse similar listings to see where competitors sit.

5
Apply for live selling access
1–3 business days decision

Once you meet the follower threshold (typically 1,000) and have at least one approved listing, apply for live access in the seller center. TikTok also factors in: violations on your regular TikTok account, completeness of seller profile, and community standing signals. Most decisions come within 1–3 business days.

6
Run a test stream before your first real show
30–60 minutes

Go live to friends or a private audience first. Verify: product cards attach correctly, audio is clean, lighting reads well on both iOS and Android, and the checkout flow completes end to end. Fix issues before your first revenue-generating stream — TikTok's algorithm weighs early-show retention heavily, and technical failures kill retention fast.

The 3 most common rejection reasons

  1. Incomplete tax or KYC info. A missing field or a mismatched name will reject both the account and the live application. Fix in the seller center and resubmit — no 7-day cooldown.
  2. A listing failed review. Usually wrong category, low-res photos, or a title that looks spammy. Fix and relist; your application will automatically re-evaluate.
  3. Policy violations on your regular TikTok account. If your creator account has active strikes, TikTok Shop will reject live access. Clear the strikes first or use a clean account.
Don't apply for live access on a new TikTok account. Spin up a clean account, build 1,000 followers through regular content for 2–3 weeks, then apply. Cold applications from new accounts are the most commonly rejected pattern.

What to do while waiting for approval

What TikTok Shop fees actually cost you

TikTok Shop Live commissions average 5% including processing, category-dependent. Payout lands ~7 days after the order ships, longer for new sellers (first 90 days) where TikTok holds a refund reserve.

Compared to Whatnot's stacked 12.7% effective rate, TikTok is cheaper per sale — but slower to pay out. The full platform comparison breaks down when each is the right call.
